HOOGTIJ/laagtij is a festival within a festival; a flagrant homage to celebration as such; a scaled-down metaphor for a city on the verge of insanity; an invitation to both, total surrender and sobering reflection.

20 artists immerse the viewer into their idea of jubilation, transcendence and related rituals. Their daily actions ignite from a visual, theatrical or musical spark and draw on rich traditions or are, just as well, reckless bursts of euphoria & decadence.

All interventions leave physical traces. At best they lead to a ‘Gesamtkunstwerk’. In any case they become a visual guideline for the reconstructive exhibition held in the aftermath.
